Fishers Fire District Defined

FFD MapFishers Fire District is a municipal entity governed by an elected Board of Fire Commissioners that finances the delivery of emergency services through taxation. This tax money provides for two fire stations, four career firefighters, all the apparatus and equipment used in the delivery of these services and the overall operational expenses of running the district. The Fishers Volunteer Fire Association (501[C]3) is the organization within the district that provides volunteer personnel to deliver the emergency services.  The fire association is funded through its annual fund drive and all donations are tax deductible.  The operations of the fire association are under the direction of six business officers elected annually by the association membership.

Fishers Fire District protects 26 square miles within the Town of Victor and five miles of the New York State Thruway.  Victor is located in the northwest corner of Ontario County, 20 miles southeast of Rochester, N.Y.  The territory protected by the Fishers borders with Monroe County on two sides.  Fishers is an active participant in both the Monroe and Ontario county mutual aid plans.

The district is a mix of rural land, residential developments and a corridor of commercial and light industry.  Within the district is one of the largest mall complexes in western New York, Eastview Mall.   Two major expressways, Interstate 90 and Interstate 490, intersect in the district.  I90 is the New York State Thruway, I490 is the major eastern connection between the Thruway and Rochester.

There is a paid firefighter on duty for a rapid initial response 24/7/365. Volunteers are augmented by a paid custodian/driver during the weekday daytime hours in each station. The District operates two rescue pumpers, one 105 ft. quint, one rescue truck, and one grassfire truck out of two fire stations.

The District is managed by a Board of Fire Commissioners.  The Board is made up of five elected members, each elected a different year for a five-year term, and a Treasurer, elected for a three-year term.  The Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at Station 2 (380 High Street, Victor, NY) at 7:30 p.m.  Meetings are open to the public.
